American Gary Mawson Signed by Unicorn

?It is a great honour to join the best darts in the world. To be part of Team Unicorn ? alongside my heroes Phil Taylor and Bob Anderson ? is just a dream and now I am back playing darts regularly, I am sure that I can repay everybody?s faith in me.?

Mawson has signed the deal with Unicorn to round-off a hat-trick of celebrations! The 44-year-old has just confirmed his place at the Grand Slam of Darts and the World Championship, which will guarantee him at least ?8,000 in prize money ?and the 3-year-deal with Unicorn is the icing on the cake.

Mawson joins fellow American Ray Carver in the Unicorn set-up and both have qualified for the World Championship, by finishing No.1 and No.2 in the US Order of Merit?.but Mawson?s performance at the top of the rankings has also clinched a prized spot at the GSOD in Wolverhampton in November.

It is a terrific achievement for Mawson, who took six years out of the sport when he got married in 2000??born in Canada, he is now an American citizen and lives in North Royalton, Ohio.

Mawson is no stranger to darts fans?.he played in the first two World Grand Prix tournaments in 1998 and 1999 ? reaching the quarter-finals in ?98 and he also played in the World Championships at the Circus Tavern in 1999 and 2000, before putting away the tungsten to concentrate on life away from darts.

But he is back with a bang! In July, Mawson reached the quarter-finals of the Las Vegas Desert Classic. He beat Stuart Holden and Alan Tabern, before losing a tight match to eventual runner-up Terry Jenkins?..and he also performed well at the US Open in Connecticut earlier in the year.

It?s been quite a comeback to the professional circuit for Gary Mawson?.with the promise of a lot more to come!
