The new game should be available for PS2, Wii, and PC, and the latest press releases suggest that a PSP version is also on the way, and it should be here in time for Christmas.

From PocketGamer.co.uk:

Professional darts is a dangerous activity. Nothing to do with having your aorta accidentally punctured by a stray pointy projectile, obviously ? the players aren’t exactly the aim-it-roughly-at-the-board-and-hope-for-the-best variety you get down your local pub.

No, the danger comes from accidentally coming across a televised darts competition while channel zapping. Because if you don’t react quickly enough on the remote and move on, you’ll be sucked in. Before you know it, you’d have lost two hours of your life.

Digital darts haven’t always proved as compelling, although good virtual interpretations of the game do obviously exist. And Oxygen will obviously be hoping its forthcoming attempt, PDC World Championship Darts 2008, will be among those.

The game promises a faithful recreation of the event it’s licensed from as well as a variety of other tournaments and additional modes. No details regarding the actual play mechanic have yet been divulged but clearly the game’s success will pivot on that crucial element.

For now, of particular interest to darts fans will be the revelation that 16 real-world players are included in all their life-like glory. So whether it’s Raymond ‘The Man’ van Barneveld, Peter ‘One Dart’ Manley, Dennis ‘The Menace’ Priestley or Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor (arguably the greatest darts player of all time) ? to name but four ? you’re bound to find your darting idol.

PDC World Championship Darts 2008 is due for release on April 25th 2008.

From Spong.com:

Phil ‘The Power’ TaylorOxygen has just revealed that SPOnG’s all time second? favourite dart thrower in the world ever is going to appear in PDC World Championship Darts 2008! That’s right, Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor, one of the greatest men ever to spend loads of time in the pub throwing pointy things at a piece of cork, has been added to the line up.

Also announced is Raymond ?The Man? van Barneveld who beat The Power in 2007 to claim the title of World Champion, Colin ?Jaws? Lloyd, the number one player in the world in 2004 and 2005, Peter ?One Dart? Manley, double World Champion John ?Darth Maple? Part from Canada and Wayne ?Hawaii 501? Mardle.

Some might say that updating last year’s PDC World Championship Darts with a bunch of new professional players is a spot on the lazy side, but SPOnG loves their handles so much that we don’t even care. Here’s the list of the ten announced players to date:

Phil ?The Power? Taylor
Raymond ?The Man? van Barneveld
Peter ?One Dart? Manley
Wayne ?Hawaii 501? Mardle
Dennis ?The Menace? Priestley
Adrian ?Jackpot? Lewis
Alan ?The Iceman? Warriner-Little
John ?Darth Maple? Part
Colin ?Jaws? Lloyd
Mark ?Flash? Dudbridge

From GameZone.com:

10 Pros signed up, more to be announced

Following on from the rapturous fan reaction to the inclusion of ten real world darts professionals in last year?s critically and commercially successful PDC World Championship Darts, Oxygen Interactive is raising the bar further for its forthcoming, PDC World Championship Darts 2008, by increasing the number of real-life darts legends to 16!

The first ten to be announced include Phil ?The Power? Taylor – the greatest player ever to throw a dart, winning his 13th World Championship title in 2006 – and Raymond ?The Man? van Barneveld, the current World Champion who defeated Taylor in the greatest ever final in January 2007.

Also starring in the game are; Colin ?Jaws? Lloyd (the number one player in the world in 2004 and 2005, winning two major titles along the way), Peter ?One Dart? Manley (double World Champion), John ?Darth Maple? Part (from Canada), and the ever-popular Wayne ?Hawaii 501? Mardle.
