Pecker Does Not Want to Get Beaten at BDO World Championship

Eleventh seed Brian ?Pecker? Woods is relishing the chance to go for glory under the TV spotlight when the BDO world darts championship gets underway this weekend.

The West Cumbrian will appear in the Lakeside finals, starting on January 5, for the third consecutive year but will be seeded for the first time after picking up 70 ranking points during the campaign.

?Gary Anderson won it with 136 points, but he played in the competitions abroad, and I didn?t,? Woods said. ?If I had done I could have been seeded higher than 11th.

?I?m playing pretty well so I?m confident, but I?m not looking past the first round, that?s my main concern.?

Egremont-based Woods was beaten 3-0 live on the BBC on his Lakeside debut two years ago by world star Mervyn King and went down by the same scoreline against Niels de Ruiter, again in the first round, in the 2007 event.

But he does not believe the pressure of appearing on TV on the big stage was a factor in those defeats.

?It has never bothered me,? he added. ?I?m looking forward to it. Losing the last twice was my own fault.

?I know ?if? is a big word, but I missed doubles and let them off. I have beaten these players. It?s just a matter of doing it on the day.?
