Taylor Survives van Gerwen Attack

Phil Taylor survived a real scare before recording a come-from behind 3-2 sets victory over young Dutch star Michael van Gerwen, who had a dart to defeat the 13-time world champion, on the first day of the PDC World championships in Alexandra Palace.

Both players were neck and neck throughout the game, with Van Gerwen fully justifying his reputation as a potential future great of the game.

Though neither player scored nearly as heavily as they are capable of, the drama between this meeting of two darting generations produced classic drama before Taylor sealed the fifth set by five legs to three.

The day was less merciful to other top seeds however, as former world number one Colin Lloyd crashed out to Dutchman Jan van der Rassel.
