Phil Taylor suffers England’s only loss in the Keukenconcurrent Masters of Darts.
The Hengelo Holland tournament consists of five Dutch dart stars competing against 5 English players.
PDC’s newest big name Mervyn King opened the tournament with a win over Jelle Klaasen 3-0 in straight sets.
Next was Taylor’s defeat at the skillful hands of young gun Michael Van Gerwen. The teenage dart sensation Van Gerwen also won in straight sets with a 3-0 victory of his own, and averaged 103. He had finishes of 170 and 164 and we may soon hear Sid describing future darting achievements as Gerwenesk. Will we soon have a replacement for the way too often touted “stacking” technique? We’ll be hearing from this fantastic darter for years to come!
Peter Manley and Colin Lloyd were victorious over Raymond Van Barneveld and Roland Scholten respectively, and the last match of the evening saw Wayne Mardle win 3-0 against Vincent van der Voort.
Mervyn King 3-0 Jelle Klaasen
Phil Taylor 0-3 Michael van Gerwen
Peter Manley 3-2 Raymond van Barneveld
Colin Lloyd 3-0 Roland Scholten
Wayne Mardle 3-0 Vincent van der Voort
