Dennis a real menace

Dennis Priestley’s wonder start to the Holsten Premier League continued as he moved clear at the top of the table after the fourth set of matches at the Newcastle Arena.

The 56-year-old Yorkshireman has been in superb form in his debut Premier League campaign and secured the biggest win of the 2007 tournament with an 8-1 beating of Adrian Lewis.

Priestley fell a leg behind as Lewis started the brighter.

However, the double world champion reeled off eight successive legs in front of almost 4,000 fans in Newcastle to move on to seven points.

He said: “I am ecstatic with that result. I am playing well and the crowds are inspiring me.”

Priestley sits a point clear of the defending Premier League champion Phil Taylor, who continued his unbeaten record with an 8-2 success against Peter Manley.

Taylor will meet Raymond van Barneveld in a World Championship final rematch in Sheffield next week, and is gunning for revenge after his 7-6 Purfleet loss.

Taylor said: “I feel great and I am really looking forward to it. Raymond has a battle on his hands. I will be ready for it.”

Van Barneveld came from 4-1 down to draw 7-7 with Terry Jenkins, with both players averaging more than 102.

The Dutchman also took out a 170 finish to keep alive his unbeaten start to this year’s tournament, Jenkins moving on to three points in his debut campaign.

The night’s first match saw Colin Lloyd claim his first win of the campaign with an 8-5 defeat Roland Scholten.

LAST NIGHT’S RESULTS: Colin Lloyd 8 Roland Scholten 5, Dennis Priestley 8 Adrian Lewis 1, Phil Taylor 8 Peter Manley 2, Terry Jenkins 7 Raymond van Barneveld 7.
