PDC Withdraw Support for Dutch Events!

The Professional Darts Corporation are to withdraw their support for the International Darts League and World Darts Trophy tournaments from 2008 onwards.

The two Dutch-based events have involved PDC players for the past two years and seen Raymond van Barneveld and Phil Taylor pick up tournament wins in the IDL and WDT respectively.

However, the PDC are to press ahead with their plans to create their own tournaments in Holland over the coming years to benefit all PDC players and PDPA members.

Raymond van Barneveld defeated Kevin McDine 8-2 to win the Blue Square UK Open Irish Regional Final at the Citywest Hotel. The Dutchman, the defending UK Open champion, picked up the Regional Final title in Dublin for a second successive year with some sensational darts, including an imperious display in the final.

He landed five 180s against McDine, and also took out finishes of 136, 119 and 96 in seeing off the 22-year-old Geordie.

Phil Taylor Looking to Silence His Doubters at WGP

Phil Taylor begins the defence of his SkyBet World Grand Prix title on Monday at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin looking to silence his doubters.

Taylor claimed victory in the double-start event with a 7-4 defeat of Terry Jenkins in the final last October, the seventh time he has won the World Grand Prix in the nine-year history of the event. He has not claimed a major title since May this year, having lost out in the Blue Square UK Open, Las Vegas Desert Classic, Stan James World Matchplay and Bullit World Darts Trophy. However, a run to the final of the World Darts Trophy was followed up last weekend by Taylor defeating current World Champion Raymond van Barneveld 8-6 to win the Emperors Palace South African Masters in Johannesburg – and he feels he is ready to answer his critics in Dublin.

Five New Venues Added to Premier League Darts Schedule

“The tournament has grown enormously each year and we are looking forward to the 2008 Premier League Darts,” said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

Next year’s Premier League will be bigger and better than ever with new venues added: Manchester’s MEN Arena, Wembley Arena, Coventry’s Ricoh Arena, the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, and the Liverpool Echo Arena.
