PHIL TAYLOR scooped four awards at the Professional Darts Corporation’s Annual Awards Dinner on Monday night, including the prestigious Player of the Year title.

Taylor capped an incredible 12 months of success by winning a 15th World Championship title at the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship on Sunday, defeating Simon Whitlock 7-3 in the final.

He followed up that by being named as the PDC’s Player of the Year for a second successive year at the Annual Awards Dinner held at The Dorchester Hotel in London.

The Australian has been rewarded for his superb run to the final of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship with a place in this year’s Premier League, which begins at The O2 in London on February 11.

Whitlock is moving from New South Wales to base himself in the UK in 2010, as he bids to follow up his Alexandra Palace success with Premier League glory.

PHIL TAYLOR became World Darts Champion for a 15th time on Sunday night with a 7-3 victory over Australian Simon Whitlock in the final of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

The world number one successfully defended his title by dropping just four sets during the entire tournament to claim a record £200,000 first prize.

PHIL TAYLOR has become PDC World Darts Champion for the 15th time after defeating Simon Whitlock 7-3 in Sunday’s final.

With the title comes £200,000 in prize money, and having come through a very tight and tense finale against a very worthy opponent he revealed his delight at yet another milestone being reached. He told Sky’s Dave Clark:

“It’s everything I practice for and this was one of the greatest finals but it was hard work. He kept saying I’m coming after you and he did. It was brilliant, I’m so chuffed and over the moon.

SIMON WHITLOCK will attempt to take Phil Taylor’s Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship crown on Sunday night when the pair clash in the final at London’s Alexandra Palace.

Whitlock won through to the decider in the £1 million event with a brilliant 6-5 win over Raymond van Barneveld, the Australian coming from 4-2 down to take victory.

Never have I looked forward to the semi finals of a Darts World Championship so much; with four different nations being represented and three previous title winners still in the frame, it makes for some very exciting play.

The likes of Mervyn King, James Wade, John Part, Gary Anderson and Wayne Mardle may have all fallen at earlier hurdles, but as we reach the latter stages I am genuinely excited by what’s coming up.

SIMON WHITLOCK produced the performance of his life to dump world number three James Wade from the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship on Friday afternoon, and is joined in the semi-finals by Mark Webster.

Whitlock booked his semi-final place with a sensational 5-3 win over Wade, hitting the second highest average of the tournament at 105.37 as well as landing 15 maximums and a 170 checkout.

JAMES WADE edged a thrilling seven-set battle against Andy Hamilton to reach the quarter-finals of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

The world number three was on the brink of exiting the tournament in the fourth leg of the final set when Hamilton missed double 18 to take out 156 for the match. Wade took out 64 to make it two-apiece in the set then edged in front by breaking Hamilton’s throw, before taking out 121 to clinch a breathless match and a last eight clash with Simon Whitlock on New Year’s Day.
