He’ll only take a month, but he’s hoping the break in darts will help him concentrate and regain his former form.
Webster won the 2008 BDO World Championship with a 7-5 defeat of Australian darter Simon “The Wizard” Whitlock, but the year since then hasn’t seen world class form from the former champion.
After failing to retain his title in this year’s championship, Webster remaked “it was just one of those things, it happens. I haven’t been playing well.”
“I’m taking a break for at least a month and then i will get bck to it,” said Webster.
From the Denbighshire Free Press:
Although he retained the Europe Cup singles and reached the last-eight in the PDC-organised Grand Slam of Darts, Webster hasn’t been at his best.
That was demonstrated by an up-and-down set of performances at this year’s Lakeside extravaganza.
Webster impressed with an assured 3-0 first round whitewash of Dutchman Willy van der Wiel, but struggled as he suffered a 4-0 wipeout at the hands of 2001 world champion John Walton in the second round.
Webster has not planned any particular tournament to make his return, but with Februrary being a busy darts month seeing tournaments including the Dutch Open, Scottish Open, and the Six Nations Cup, he won’t have too much time to spare to get his form back and get on the darts circuit again.
