Martin Adams was the third seed in the BDO Championship, but had to dig out a victory against his debutant opponent Dave Chisnall. Martin defeated Chisnall in a narrow 3-2 win, averaging just shy of 31 points per dart throughout the match. From the Sporting Life website:
Adams, who won the title in 2007, led 2-1 in the final set but Chisnall replied with a 180 to make it 2-2. Adams then led 3-2 and 4-3 before clinching the victory with a double 12.
“That was a hard game but will give me confidence for the next round,” said Adams afterwards. “(Double) tops was awful to me – I could not have bought the double tonight.
“Dave is a good player who took the Isle of Man Open in the spring and has had a good inter-counties season. I got what I expected – a hard game.”
The match was a back and forth game with Chisnal, who hails from St Helans, catching back up with Adams every time he pulled ahead. The scores were 2-2 in the final set, and with two clear legs being needed for a win. After missed doubles by both darters, Adams finally hit a double 12 to win 5-3.
From BBC Sport:
