The Professional Darts Corporation have released the following statement after the decision by the British Darts Organisation to reject its takeover offer:

In October 2009, the PDC offered £1 million to purchase the BDO, with a further £1 million which would then have been invested in amateur darts.

However, a meeting of the BDO Counties on Sunday voted by a majority to reject the offer.

PDC Chairman Barry Hearn said: “We are disappointed with their decision but while we acknowledge their right to make that decision, we are disappointed on two counts.

“Firstly, we wanted a meeting with the member counties and clearly the majority did not want that meeting.

“Secondly, we wanted due diligence on their records. They did not want us to look at their books.

“When you look at their decision, it shows the ineptitude of the amateur game.

“For us at the PDC, it saves us £2m which we can plough back into the development of our sport, but our door is always open to them.”

BDO REJECT OFFER

At a full Council meeting attended by 65 BDO counties on January 31st, 2010, a majority vote by county delegates instructed the BDO Board to reject an offer by the PDC to ‘buy’ the BDO.

Phil Taylor avoided a major scare from Terry Jenkins to earn his place in the quarter-finals of the totesport.com Players Championship on Saturday night.

Taylor, the reigning champion in the £250,000 event, was pushed to deciding leg by Jenkins before prevailing 8-7 to set up a quarter-final with Colin Lloyd on Sunday.

Jenkins led Taylor 4-3 midway through the contest, but a 160 finish helped the world number one to regain the lead, and he proved too strong as the game went to a deciding leg.

COLIN LLOYD made a thrilling comeback to defeat Kevin Painter 8-4 with an impressive performance in the totesport.com Players Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Lloyd hit back from 4-2 down to win six successive legs in booking a quarter-final place at the Circus Tavern, prevailing in a high-quality battle of the Essex-born stars.

MERVYN KING produced a sensational comeback to send world number three James Wade crashing out of the totesport.com Players Championship on Friday night with a 6-5 victory.

King looked set to depart the Circus Tavern on the back of a hiding when left-hander Wade powered into a 5-2 lead in their clash.

PHIL TAYLOR began the defence of his totesport.com Players Championship title with victory over Peter Manley as the £250,000 event began on Thursday night.

Taylor returned to the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, Essex – the scene of 11 of his 15 World Championship triumphs – to see off old adversary Manley 6-2.

The ever-popular Wayne Mardle has confirmed that he will return to Barbados to host the Brydens Barbados Darts Festival from November 1 – 11.
