PHIL TAYLOR began the defence of his Ladbrokes.com World Darts championship in style with a whitewash of Colin Monk at Alexandra Palace – but Wayne Mardle crashed out of the event to German qualifier Jyhan Artut.
Taylor, the 14-time World Champion barely broke sweat in sweeping past the Basingstoke-based qualifier without dropping a leg, also hitting a maximum 170 finish on his way to victory.
