Van der Voort ends Robson\’s WDT dream

Gary Robson, who won the Bullit World Darts Trophy in 2005, won’t play in the 2007 main tournament. The professional darts player from England was beaten by Vincent van der Voort in the second and final preliminary round. Mervyn King did better and reached the main event, just like Wayne Atwood, Michael van Gerwen, Denis Ovens, Jelle Klaasen, Kevin Painter, Shaun Greatbatch and of course Van der Voort.

Lewis and Manley Raise Money for Charitys

Two big names in darts are helping raise money for charities. Areian Lewis helped the Cauldwell Children’s charity by taking part in the RAC Charity Track Day Challenge, while Peter Manley, through his participation in Betfred’s Charity Challenge, helped others in need.

Andover Academy Scores Triple Win

Andover’s Academy celebrated a triple success last Sunday by sweeping all three titles in the second Andover Unicorn Darts Youth Challenge.

Fifty six youngsters from six counties had made their way to the Entertainer and it was testament to the talent and sportsmanship on show that the sport of darts has a very bright future. The Academy of late has been forging strong links with two other newly- formed schools in Essex and London who both brought a dozen or so aspiring young darters. There were three sections on the day, Young Men, Women and a ground-breaking Junior event that held the large number of spectators captivated.

Danish Open: Steve West and Francis Hoenselaar Take Top Spots

England’s Steve West took a win over James Wilson from Yorkshire in the Denmark Open Singles competition last Saturday. Third place was shared by Denmark’s Kim Fridthjof and Niels de Ruiter.
The Womens event saw Francisca Hoeneslarr win her 4th Danish Open Title when she beat her arch rival Trina Gulliver in the final. Trina had up until this event won three consecutive events. Third place went to Netherland’s darter Sandra van Halderen and Findland’s Sari Nikula.

Grand Slam Invitation Slammed by Martin Adams

The tournament, from 17-25 November in Wolverhampton, was initially billed as bringing together the best players from across the sport’s bitter divide.

TV Wildcard Qualifier for Grand Slam of Darts Announced

HAVE you ever dreamed of playing alongside Phil Taylor in a major televised darts tournament? ITV are giving any darts player the chance to win a place in the 2007 Grand Slam of Darts.

An ITV Wildcard Qualifier for the tournament will take place on Sunday 30 September at Wolverhampton’s Alderseley Leisure Village and allow any darts player to enter.

The winner will be awarded a place in November’s inaugural ITV-televised Grand Slam of Darts at the nearby Wolverhampton Civic, guaranteeing a minimum prize of ?4,000 for qualifying
