REIGNING champion James Wade qualified for the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts play-offs and denied Ronnie Baxter a tilt at the title as the league phase of the tournament ended in Nottingham on Thursday.

Wade had lost his first three games, but his 8-5 victory over Terry Jenkins at the Trent FM Arena saw him jump into the top four.

Phil Taylor avoided a major scare from Terry Jenkins to earn his place in the quarter-finals of the totesport.com Players Championship on Saturday night.

Taylor, the reigning champion in the £250,000 event, was pushed to deciding leg by Jenkins before prevailing 8-7 to set up a quarter-final with Colin Lloyd on Sunday.

Jenkins led Taylor 4-3 midway through the contest, but a 160 finish helped the world number one to regain the lead, and he proved too strong as the game went to a deciding leg.

SIMON WHITLOCK dumped world number six Terry Jenkins out of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship with a 4-2 win to reach the quarter-finals.

TERRY JENKINS and Simon Whitlock both won their second round matches 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon to set up a last 16 clash in the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

World number six Jenkins dropped just two legs in disposing of the American Darin Young, while Whitlock followed his opening round average of 101 with a 99 average against world number 22 Wayne Jones.

TERRY JENKINS ended his Alexandra Palace hoodoo with a 3-2 victory over Paul Nicholson in the first round of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship on Monday night.

Jenkins had never won a game on the Alexandra Palace stage, losing to Kirk Shepherd and Dennis Smith in the two previous World Championships as well as suffering a 2007 Premier League Darts whitewash against Colin Monk at the venue.

Yorkshireman Waites continued the greatest week of his darting career with a superb 16-11 semi-final win over Terry Jenkins, earning him a minimum £50,000 pay-day.

PHIL `THE POWER` Taylor continued his dominance of the 2009 PDC Darting calendar by winning the stanjames.com World Matchplay Championship by beating Terry Jenkins 18-3 in Blackpool last night.

It’s the tenth time the man from Stoke has won the tournament, and he will now be looking towards the Grand Slam and the World Championship to complete his year.
