Phil Taylor Powers Over Ronnie Baxter

PHIL TAYLOR returned to his ruthless best to power into the quarter-finals of the Daily Mirror Grand Slam of Darts, defeating Ronnie Baxter 10-1 at the Wolves Civic.

Taylor had ditched his new-look glasses to see off Wes Newton in progressing through the group stage, and turned on the style in continuing his bid for a fourth straight Grand Slam win.

He took a 9-0 lead against Baxter as the Blackpool man suffered a nightmare with his finishing, and after dropping just one leg hit double top to secure a heavy win.

Jamie Caven Slips Past Ronnie Baxter with 6-5 Win

JAMIE CAVEN won his second Players Championship of the year, edging out Ronnie Baxter 6-5 in Sunday’s final at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin.

The Derby ace followed up his victory in Canada in August with the narrowest of wins against Baxter to take his fourth PDC title, and make the best possible preparation for Monday’s Bodog.com World Grand Prix opener against Andy Smith.

RONNIE BAXTER progressed to the PartyPoker.net European Championship quarter-finals with a second successive deciding leg victory, as he defeated Wes Newton 10-9 in Dinslaken.

Baxter took out 126 in the 11th leg to edge past Alan Tabern in Friday’s first round, and was pushed all the way by local rival Newton in a thriller.

PHIL TAYLOR roared back from 4-0 down to defeat Ronnie Baxter 8-6 in the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts at the BIC in Bournemouth.

Taylor had defied a virus to defeat Simon Whitlock in the event’s opening week, but looked a shadow of his best when a slow start allowed Baxter to superbly win the opening four legs.

RONNIE BAXTER defeated Phil Taylor 6-2 to win the Las Vegas Players Championship.

Baxter picked up his first tournament win of 2009 with the £6,000 title at the Mandalay Bay Resort, condemning Taylor to only his second Players Championship loss of the year with a fine display.

Having been pushed all the way to a deciding leg by Japan’s Morihiro Hashimoto in the first round, he then defeated Davis Snider, Wayne Mardle, Kevin Painter and John Part to reach the semi-finals.

Both Colin Osborne and Phil Taylor won their matches with a decisive victory, with Osborne defeating Kevin Painter 10-7, and with Taylor winning over Ronnie Baxter 10-6.

Painter was disappointed after having reached his first UK Open Semi as he never recovered from an early 5-1 lead by Osborne.

Taylor also survived a comeback scare from Ronnie Baxter as he saw his early 6-0 lead disappear as Baxter took 6 out of the next 7 to bring the gap to one.
