THE Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts play-offs were cancelled at the Wembley Arena on Sunday night following a power cut in north London.

The £410,000 event was due to conclude on Sunday night with the semi-finals, third place play-off and final of the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts in one session.

REIGNING champion James Wade qualified for the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts play-offs and denied Ronnie Baxter a tilt at the title as the league phase of the tournament ended in Nottingham on Thursday.

Wade had lost his first three games, but his 8-5 victory over Terry Jenkins at the Trent FM Arena saw him jump into the top four.

Wade continued his push for a play-off place with a draw against league leader Taylor, but paid the price for one missed match dart as the world number one came from 5-2 and 7-4 behind to snatch a point.

REIGNING champion James Wade reignited his Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts challenge with an 8-4 win over Mervyn King at Glasgow’s S.E.C.C. on Thursday night.

The left-hander had picked up only two wins from his opening eight matches this season, but remains a point behind play-off challengers Simon Whitlock and Adrian Lewis following his most clinical performance of the year.

Wade hit seven 180s in the contest and checked out 42 percent of his attempts at a double in powering past second-placed King, for whom a 161 finish was not enough on the night.

RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD’S disappointing Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts campaign continued with an 8-2 defeat to Phil Taylor at the CIA in Cardiff on Thursday night.

The Dutchman, a five-time World Champion, suffered an 11th successive loss to Taylor and, more importantly, a fifth defeat of the Premier League campaign to remain second-bottom in the league table.

He was punished for a string of missed doubles as Taylor romped to victory in Cardiff, extending his unbeaten run in the event to eight matches this season.

The National Indoor Arena in Birmingham played host to the latest round of Premier League matches on Thursday Evening, with Phil Taylor taking on Adrian Lewis in a battle of the Stokeys.

Taylor used to practice with Lewis before the protégée decided to go it alone, and has now recruited the services of 1983 World Champion Keith Dellar to improve his game. However the youngster failed to live up to hi words and was beaten 8-4 by `The Power.`

DEFENDING Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts champion James Wade picked up his first win of the 2010 season with an 8-4 defeat Simon Whitlock as Phil Taylor hit top gear at The Brighton Centre on Thursday night.

Wade looked on course to suffer a fourth defeat in the opening six weeks when Whitlock powered into an early 4-1 lead, aided by a sensational 170 checkout.

Phil Taylor remains top of the Whyte and Mackay Premier League after securing a hard fought point against Mervyn King at the Manchester Evening News Arena on Thursday evening.

The fifteen times World Champion struggled to get a foothold on the match until after the commercial break, but King also failed to produce his best form and so the 2008 champion was lucky to walk off the stage halfway through at 3-3.
