Australian number one Paul Nicholson celebrated a new look with a 6-4 win over Scottish star Gary Anderson in the biggest game of the opening night.

Nicholson sported a waistcoat and tie for the contest, and came from behind before sealing victory with a bullseye finish for a 132 checkout against Anderson.

“It’s a massive confidence boost for me,” said Nicholson. “This is possibly the biggest win of my career and I can go on from this.”

Gary Anderson may not be one of the more ‘recognised’ names on the PDC circuit, but since his switch from the BDO in February he’s certainly made his mark, and definitely living up to his nickname- `The Flying Scotsman`.

The Scot lit up the Whyte and Mackay Premier League during the final evening in Cardiff just a few weeks ago, overcoming three times World Champion John Part 7-4, averaging well over 105.

GARY ANDERSON claimed his first title since joining the PDC with a 6-2 victory over Mervyn King in the Welsh Players Championship.

The Scotsman followed up two finals a month ago to go one better at the Newport Centre, picking up the £6,000 to continue a superb week.

He defeated John Part in a Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts Challenge Match on Thursday, and saw off two other Premier League stars on his way to victory on Saturday.

Double Dutch Weekend for Phil Taylor with another Players Championship Win.

Phil Taylor completed back-to-back Players Championship victories in Nuland with a second successive win over Gary Anderson.

Taylor followed up his final-leg win over the Scot on Saturday with a 6-2 triumph in Sunday’s decider, to claim the £6,000 title.

The win is Taylor’s ninth on the PDC Pro Tour this year and 11th in total in 2009, and takes his earnings to £232,000 since January 1.

Gary Anderson Changing Nickname to Begin New Career in PDC

Hoping that a name change to go along with his organisational move will also change his winning percentage, Gary “Dream Boy” Anderson is no more. His new PDC moniker is now Gary “The Flying Scotsman” Anderson.

Anderson remarked: “The Flying Scotsman is not bad, it underlines my patriotism for my country but it’s going to cost me a fortune in lettering on the back of my shirts. I might even have to pile on the weight so I’m a XXXXL so we can get the entire nickname across my back!”

BDO World Championship, Anderson Defeats Wagner 3-2
