SIMON WHITLOCK made a stunning return to the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship with a 3-1 defeat of Colin Osborne at Alexandra Palace on Tuesday night.

The Australian reached the last 16 of the 2003 World Championship before spending the next six years on the BDO/WDF circuit, reaching the Lakeside Championship final two years ago.

COLIN OSBORNE won his third tournament of 2009 with a 6-4 defeat of Michael van Gerwen in the final of Sunday’s Players Championship at the Magnum Centre in Irvine.

Osborne added to his wins in a Players Championship in Barnsley and last month’s Championship League Darts with the £6,000 title in Scotland.

Osborne avenged his loss to Taylor in the final of June’s UK Open with an accomplished performance to see off the world number one and claim the £10,000 first prize at Crondon Park GC in Essex.

PHIL TAYLOR is the new name on the Blue Square UK Open Championship trophy after beating Colin Osbourne in the final yesterday evening at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.

`The Power` recorded an 11-6 win over `The Wizard` to add yet another major to his ever growing list of achievements, and has definitely put defeat in the Premier League semi finals well and truly behind him.

PHIL TAYLOR claimed a Blue Square UK Open hat-trick with an 11-6 victory over Colin Osborne in the final at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium on Sunday night.

Taylor followed up his wins in the 2003 and 2005 events with a third victory, claiming the £40,000 winner’s cheque in bouncing back strongly from his Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts semi-final loss a fortnight ago.

Both Colin Osborne and Phil Taylor won their matches with a decisive victory, with Osborne defeating Kevin Painter 10-7, and with Taylor winning over Ronnie Baxter 10-6.

Painter was disappointed after having reached his first UK Open Semi as he never recovered from an early 5-1 lead by Osborne.

Taylor also survived a comeback scare from Ronnie Baxter as he saw his early 6-0 lead disappear as Baxter took 6 out of the next 7 to bring the gap to one.
