Francis Hoenselaar is BDO Women’s Champion
Francis Hoenselaar, the 43 year old second who hails from Rotterdam is the newly crowned BDO Women’s World Champion after she defeated Trina Gulliver.
Hoenselaar had come in second to Gulliver, being the runner to Gulliver five times previously. Gulliver was denied what would have been her eight world champion title.
Gulliver missed double tops to steal the throwing advantage in the opening leg, Hoenselaar coolly hitting double eight. However the Dutch player missed the opportunity to steal the advantage in the next as the former winner blasted in double 20, the third going with the darts as Hoenselaar hit double 10 – her third dart for a double.
Gulliver fired out a 16-dart finish on double 18 to level, Hoenselaar sweeping back to hit 180 and race down to the double, clinching the set with a two dart 66 finish on double 18.
The seven times champ turned the screw hitting 125 and 100 to annex the opening leg with the throw in the second set on double tops. The Golden Girl hit 123 and 140 scores to move 2-0 ahead after hitting a 60 out shot finished with her favourite double tops. Gulliver clinched the set on double tops but only after the Dutch player missed the same double twice.
Hoenselaar, The Dutch Crown, found the double before Gulliver, and took the first leg of the third set. She followed up the next leg with two 140s, but then failed to find the double three times. Gulliver also missed her chance to double out, swapping out misses turn for turn with Hoensellar. The Dutch darter finally found double 4 on her fifth attempt.
The next set brought Hoenselaar another pair of 140s and a double 12 at the end of the 30 minute match delivered the BDO Women’s World Championship trophy home to her mantle.
