Tony O’Shea Maxes out against Edwin “Mad” Max with a 4-0 win.
It took the veteran darter just 35 minutes to give the Dutch Darter Max a quick quick to darts class.
It was an undoubtedly disappointing day for Max as he had recently became unemployed before the start of the BDO tournament and was hoping for a good showing.
O’Shea started off to a fantastic beginning, throwing two 180s and raising everyone’s hopes of a nine dart leg, but he missed his seventh triple 20 to allow him the perfect game. He finished the leg with 11 darts however, and never looked troubled throughout the rest of the match.
From the BDO Match writeup:
Silverback’s rout continued into the next set as he fired out a further two 180s to notch a 3-1 success the shell-shocked Dutchman struggling to keep pace with the Stockport sharpshooter.
The 47-year-old grandfather of four steamed into the next set with his sixth 180, Max levelled but then O’Shea swept in a superlative 130 checkout, finished on bull.
The Dutchmen swept home his second maximum but then he hit the wrong bed which let in the Cheshire ace.
Silverback then fired off another 180 to apply more pressure to the Dutch darter and allowing him to take the leg. Missed doubles by Max, a Hague resident, allowed O’Shea to take a 2-0 lead.
Down trodden Max continued to miss doubles and failed to hit double 16 to save the match. O’Shea did not miss his attempt at the same out though, and will take his place in the quarter final round.
After the match O’Shea commented: “I was expecting a tougher match. Edwin is a great player, but did not really play well in the second half of the match. I broke him in the first two sets and really ejnoyed the match. I believe there is plenty more left in the tank.”
O’Shea will next face gary Anderson, who earned his own quarter final spot by defeating Robert Hughes 4-2.
Darryl Fitton and Scott Waites, both of England, will also face off in the quarter final round as Waites saw off Swedish Darter Alan Norris and Fitton dazzled Simon “The Wizard of Oz” Whitlock.
