BDO World Champs: Adams Looks Past Tomorrow’s First Round Toward Title
Martin Adams will face his first round opponent, Dave Chisnall, on Monday night, but he is already looking past this match up, and has his sights firmly on taking the title a second year in a row.
The Daily Mail Online: Martin Adams has admitted he would love to be crowned world champion again at the Lakeside next weekend. And the 2007 champion wants to win the title again at what many consider to be the home of darts.
He said: ‘It’s unique event, this one at Lakeside, one that I very much enjoy. Hopefully I can lift that title again.
‘Once you’ve had that title, you want it back again. That’s the motivation you use. I enjoyed my year as world champion and I would like to go around that loop again.
‘It’s lovely to go to events and exhibitions and be introduced as Martin Adams, England captain, but it’s even better when you have world champion after your name. It has a lovely ring to it.
‘I’ve been England captain for 15, nearly 16 years now. It’s one of the highest honours you can have in any sport, to be captain of your country and I relish having it. I’m still there until the England selectors decide they don’t want to nominate me any more.
‘I’ve been lucky enough that have kept doing so for so many years. Hopefully 2009 will be no different.
‘The Lakeside crowd have always been fantastic towards me. They are a very educated crowd, they come here for the darts and they support good darts no matter who is throwing them.
‘You have the guys who have had a little bet and have their favourites but great darts are great darts and they are a very appreciative crowd.’
