Rusty takes Oak Flats Title

Russell Stewart from Canberra took out the “Russell Stewart classic” today at Oak Flats in Wollongong. The event now in its fourth year previously won by such names as Simon Whitlock and Tony Fleet attracted players from all over Australia however the day belonged to Stewart comfortably defeating Jerry Weyman in Todays Final 6-0.

On his way to the final Russell defeated Saturdays winner Peter Corcoran in a 5 leg nailbiter, He then had to overcome one of the most experienced players in the country Queenslander Wayne Brown. Russell pulled through this game with a tight 4-3 victory. He then took on Victorian Tim Gatward and took the game 5-1 to safely see him through to the final.

On the other side of the draw,Veteran New South Welshman Jerry Weyman was doing his own damage. He defeated the experienced QLDer Shane Tichowitsch 3 legs to 2,then accounted for Wollongong local Mark Taafe in his quarter final match.

Things didn’t go all his way in the semi, where he met NZ Viva Las Vegas qualifier Daniel Sim. This was a tight match with Jerry holding the advantage most of the game to take a tight 5-3 victory.

Both Russell’s and Jerry’s form was worthy of TV Standard. Weymans average of 29.45(88.35) would easily have seen him take most events in Australia however Russell’s 6 Nil Victory included legs of 13,12,16,16,19,16 and a final average of 32.67(98.01)
