The two darts giants have met again in a final round match up and this time Phil The Power Taylor comes out on top, continuing the momentum that he has had of late.

Phil Taylor defeated Raymond van Barneveld 3-1 in the final of Saturday’s PartyPoker.net Players Championship in Germany – while a nine-darter from Colin Lloyd earned him a £12,400 bonus.

Taylor picked up his third PDC Pro Tour title of the month with a fine display at the Ramada Hotel in Bad Soden.

His fine form continued in his charge to the title, seeing off Steve Cusick and Germans Frank Mast and Marcus Schulte to reach the last 16.

He then produced a 170 finish to see off Ronnie Baxter, overcame Roland Scholten in straight sets in the quarter-finals and came from a set down against Andy Hamilton in the semis.

Facing old foe van Barneveld in the final, Taylor produced an 11-darter in winning the first set 2-0.

World number one van Barneveld came from a leg down to win the second set, but never recovered after another 11-darter from Taylor saw him take the deciding leg of set three.

He led in the fourth, but double ten put Taylor to the brink of victory and a 96 finish, on double 18, sealed the triumph.

Van Barneveld had edged out Alan Tabern in the deciding leg of a thrilling semi-final, with the St Helens man missing three darts for victory in a dramatic contest which he led 2-1.

Van Barneveld, playing in his first PDC Pro Tour event of 2008, dropped just two sets on his way to the last four, against Ian Eames and Wayne Mardle.

Colin Lloyd made the early headlines, hitting a nine-dart leg in his second round defeat to Colin Monk.

The feat was the first in a Players Championship tournament since 2006, and earned the Essex man a £12,400 bonus from the rolling £400 per event prize.

Hamilton came from two sets down to defeat James Wade 3-2 in the quarter-finals, while Wayne Jones also went down in the last eight.

Phil Taylor defeated Ronnie Baxter with a 170 finish at the last 16 stage, with Holland’s Jelle Klaasen and Vincent van der Voort and Spain’s Carlos Rodriguez among the victims at the same stage.

The PDC sends its best wishes to Swen Raush, who was injured in a car crash on his way to Bad Soden on Friday night.

The German Darts Classic Weekend continues on Sunday with a second PartyPoker.net Players Championship.
