Barry Hearn: Belfast is Going to Break the World Record for a Live Darts Audience
Barry Hearn speaks on the still growing revival in the sport of darts and speaks of the upcoming Premier League battles set to take place.
Belfast Telegraph:
One of Hearn’s latest creations, The Premier League of darts, is getting ready to begin year of sell-out shows starting in Glasgow. This will be the first time Belfast has been a part of the darts mayhem that is steadly gathering momentum from it’s legions of fans.
From the article:
April 24 is the date at the Odyssey Arena and only a few tickets remain, according to Hearn who has promoted numerous boxing shows in Belfast.
“There are a few tickets left but as things stand Belfast is going to break the world record for a live darts audience, which is 5,300 in Sheffield.
“It shows the popularity of the sport now that there is such demand in a place we haven’t been to before.
“It’ll be a great night with the best players in the world there.”
So did Hearn believe that it would have become so popular and drawn viewing figures that surprised the top men at Sky Sports and ITV?
“I wish I was that clever! I knew there was an opportunity for growth but the way the public have responded over the past five years has been tremendous,” added Hearn.
“It reminds me of the way we got snooker going and the way it just took off but I’m determined not to make the same mistakes I did then.”
