The opening night of the Skybet World Grand Prix produced a series of upsets, chief among them veteran Bob Anderson’s defeat of world number one Colin Lloyd.

Lloyd, champion in 2004 and runner-up to Phil Taylor 12 months ago, started brightly in Dublin and took the first set with an impressive three-dart average of 103.

But the 58-year-old ‘Limestone Cowboy’ made full use of his vast experience on the big stage from there on in, Anderson levelling the match with a nerveless bull finish.

The first two legs of the decider were shared before Anderson completed his fightback with a superb 146 checkout.

“It was an extremely hard game,” Anderson said. “I thought we both played well – my finishing was probably a little bit sharper.”
