The BDO International Open at Pontin’s, Brean Sands was a huge success – with over 300 more people on the popular Somerset park than in the previous year and a feast of great darts – men, women and youth – over three days.

The weather was warm and sunny for the second event in the Fire Kills BDO International Grand Prix Series, the highlight of which was a repeat of the 2009 Lakeside World Professional final between Tony O’Shea and Ted Hankey.

At Lakeside in January it was a dramatically close 7-6 victory for ‘The Count’, but this time ‘Silverback’ made no mistake with a convincing 4-0 victory that not only earned him the 2009 title and £2,000 in prize money, but also took Tony to the coveted No.1 spot in the BDO Invitation Table.

He also shares top spot in the Fire Kills BDO International Grand Prix Table with Scotland’s Ross Montgomery – both of whom have 15 points after the first two events.

The Women’s Singles title went to Trina Gulliver who beat Russia`s Irina Armstrong 3-2 in a closely fought final.

Trina is firmly placed at number 1 in the WDF rankings ahead of Irina, but with her fourth final in BDO events already this year, Irina proudly stands at No.1 in the BDO Women’s Invitation Table.

To complete a menu of darts excellence, the youth event was won in fine style by Wiltshire’s Chris Aubrey, who registered a 27.33 average against Gwent’s Nick Kenny, who also had a very creditable 26.98 average.
